American Pride Day at NAS Wildwood

On Saturday June 4, 2011, NAS Wildwood Aviation Museum, located at the Cape May County Airport, in Cape May New Jersey, celebrated American Pride Day. Today the museum’s regular vintage aircraft, like the F-14 Tomcat, PT-17 Boeing-Stearman, and AH-1 Cobra ,were joined by 2 special guests. Joining today was a fly-in by a F-18 Hornet and a 2011 Chevy Camaro named “American Pride”. The American Pride Camaro was commissioned by GM in the Summer of 2010. It was the brainchild of Scott Settlemire from GM’s Show car division. The paint scheme represents the history of America’s miltary conflicts around the world. From the proud Bald Eagle up front to Arlington Cemetery on the trunk lid, this car will put a tear in your eye. The “American Pride” Camaro is the result of the artistry and enthusiasm of Mountain Muscle Cars in Cosby, Tenn. Their artists and craftsmen headed by Mickey Harris took about three months to complete. If this class act Camaro is in your area, go see it you will not be disappointed. Thanks to NASW Deputy Director Bruce Fournier and his team for putting this show together. And a special thanks to Scott for letting me get some great shots outside before it was put back in the temperature controlled transporter.

Online Photographic Equipment Purchasing

There are many photography companies that make purchasing online line very easy. Like B&H Photo, Adorama, MidWest Photo, Calumet to name a few. All the ones I have mentioned have websites that can be navigated without a hitch. Pricing is very comparable. But where they differ is in shipping. When purchasing from Adorama before 6:00PM Eastern time, your in-stock items will be shipped SAME-DAY. This is done with NO Extra Charge. Since my location is in the same UPS zone as Adorama, it’s like getting Next Day shipping for the price of Ground. Even if your not close to Adorama, at least you know they are shipping your merchandise as quickly as possible.

Quick Check Festival of Ballooning 2010

This past Friday My wife and I attended the Quick Check Festival of Ballooning’s pre-festival media launch. It was at 6:30am. So it was up at 3:34am to arrive early enough for a little bit of scouting of the area. The festival was held at Solberg Airport in Readington, New Jersey so it had very wide open spaces. Close to 40 balloons participated in this launch. The rest of the weekend was to have 100+ hot air balloons. The equipment used was: Canon 20D, Canon Rebel, Canon 70-200 2.8 IS II (rented from Lensprotogo), Canon 18-55 3.5, Sigma 10-20 3.5 and a Giotto tripod.

Stock photography is a type of photography used by manufacturers to show there products, sell there wears, and show the visions of their business to the world. Even Ebayers use this themselves to showcase their worldly treasures. I have recently been contacted by an internet based wholesaler to photograph some samples of their different product lines. Brandcloseout.com is an “online wholesale men’s and women’s fashion accessories store with the goal of delivering top quality products with great customer service.” Here are a few sample shots that I did as a test to see if they like my work. If accepted, when new product arrives, photos need to be ready with the shortest turnaround time possible. The photos shown here were shot on a white seamless background. Continuous lighting was produced with a 36″ shoot through umbrella. The handbags were shot on a slight angle to show shape and depth.

Black and White

Many years ago when I shot my first photos, I loved shooting Black & White. Why you ask, because you could do all the processing yourself. There was no need to send the roll of film to the lab. Hoping nothing would happen to it in transit. In my case I turned my bedroom into a darkroom. Windows covered to make the room free of all light, loading film into a processing tank in total darkness all by feel. Using an enlarger to expose photographic paper. Three trays of chemicals (which gave the bedroom a not so good fragrance) to process the prints. All this plus many other steps required to make one print.

Today is so much different then it was then. First off I now shot digital. So I now use a memory card instead of film. No more smelling chemicals, now it’s a computer. Now you’re not stuck in one “dark” room. You can work on your photos any where you can take your computer.

Right now I’m sitting at my kitchen table. Printing techniques like “Dodge and Burn” have been replaced with an endless supply of software. Such as: Adobe Lightroom, Adobe Photoshop, Photomatix Pro.
